Who We Are

Son Bride Ranch was founded by Ramico and Sue Lyn Blackmon. Ramico has spent much of his life as a mentor and coach having trained school-aged, collegiate, world class, and professional athletes. He also was a resident at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOC) for 10 years in which he competed and finished his career as an accomplished Olympic level wrestler and later a professional MMA fighter. During his time at the USOC, he saw a great need to empower athletes. In addition, he spent seven years in the social work field where he saw an even greater need to empower children and their families. His passion for horses began as a child when he began to ride at his aunt’s horse boarding facility. Consequently, a vision was spawn to use horsemanship as a tool to illustrate a relationship with Christ that would build character and confidence into the hearts of those seeking such things.

Sue Lyn grew up herding cattle on a working cattle ranch owned and operated by her family in NE. She has worked with children for 14 years as a teacher with a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education. She, too, has come from an athletic background as a Nebraska Husker Cheerleader and has coached many through the National Cheerleader’s Association (NCA). Together, Ramico and Sue Lyn have combined almost 50 years of working with children, their families, athletes, and the horses they love.

O.K. Estes has more quality experience with horses than just about anyone currently in the business of horses. He's been riding livestock for 70 years; riding horses for over 50; and presently trains and rides as a professional cutter. During his time he has ridden with many greats regarded as legends in the cutting horse industry such as Shorty Freeman, Buster Welch, and Larry Mahan. Some that rode by his side were cowboy celebrities like Robert Duvall. He has been written up and interviewed by the coveted "Texas Monthly," "Western Horse Shooting Magazine," and "Horse Journal." He has also had guest appearances on TV networks such as "Equestrian Nation" (RFD-TV), "Best of America on Horseback" (RFD-TV), and "Best of the West" (Outdoor Channel). Today he is the owner at O.K. Estes Cutting Horses. Most importantly for Son Bride, O.K. functions much like a mentor and great friend having a wealth of knowledge in horsemanship, it's history, and old cowboy stories to share.

Shelly Riviere comes with the fire of a barrel racer but the tenderheartedness of a seasoned mother. Currently she is just that but in addition has served extensively in youth ministry as a youth group leader. She has also nearly completed another degree in counseling. Shelly has made her love for people quite obvious but when you watch her work with horses and the passion that transpires, you begin to wonder who she loves more. Shelly has spent her time at Son Bride as a remarkable session instructor and horse trainer specializing in problem solving.

Karen Eagle began her journey with Son Bride in 2013 as a great friend behind the doors of administration. Later on she ventured beyond that role to become a session instructor having hands on operation with the ranch's horses and guests. Karen holds a Masters degree in Marriage Family and Child Therapy and has years of experience in the social work field. She currently works for the state as a Therapist.

Amanda has had a passion for horses all her life and has grown up around them. She is what most would call a true nature girl as her hobbies of hunting, fishing, and boating easily reveal. She has also spent many years on the volleyball court as an athlete. Although she is currently employed by Woodmoor Country Club, Amanda makes time to volunteer at Son Bride as a session instructor and the passion she pours into those sessions is contagious. In a paraphrase of her own words Amanda volunteers at Son Bride Ranch to show people how a relationship with Christ works through building a bond with a horse.

  • Megan Hemmer

    - Volunteer -

Megan spends most of her time chopping down all the tasks that come with being a high school student. However, when she's around horses she carries herself like a professional. She is also a part of a club cheer team and plays saxophone for her school band. Megan has come gift wrapped with a lot of heart and has proven her commitment to horses and people over and over at Son Bride. She brings a tough work habit to compete with and keeps our herd well exercised. In her role as a session instructor, there's hardly any that shine like Megan.

  • John Baskerville

    - Volunteer -

John Baskerville has been a great friend and volunteer of Son Bride Ranch since it's inception in 2008. Most of his work has been behind the scenes handling marketing strategies and web design and content. Yep, he puts it all together. He is currently employed by One Firefly as a Director of Product. We don't get to see his face as much as we'd like to but he has been known to come out to the horse runs and pens to get his boots a little dirty and get a ride in when his clock says to.

  • Karen Shuman

    - Volunteer -

Karen can’t remember a time when she didn’t love horses. She rode while growing up in Virginia but had to focus on college, career, and then family for several years before getting back into riding a few years ago. She loves the outdoors and many sports, but horseback riding touches something deep inside. Although her job as Principal Consultant at ISG takes up much of her time, she consistently shows up to do whatever is needed - grooming and exercising horses, sweeping the barn aisle, and sometimes just listening or holding a hand.
